Companies that were tracked employed 27,311 professionals in Q4 2008, down 0.9 percent from the 27,562 employed in Q4 2007, and down 3.1 percent from the 28,176 employed in Q3 2008.“Declines in CAE, IC Physical Design and Verification, and pcb manufacturer/MCM resulted in an overall decline for Q4 2008,” said Walden C. Rhines, EDA Consortium chair and Mentor Graphics CEO and chairman. “For Q4, the double-digit drop occurred in all regions except Western Europe, which showed an 8.4 percent decline.”

The EDA Consortium (EDAC) Market Statistics Service (MSS) today announced that the electronic design automation (EDA) industry revenue for Q4 2008 declined 17.7 percent to $1318.7 million, compared to $1602.7 million in Q4 2007. The four-quarter moving average declined 9.4 percent. Note that revenue numbers which include Q1 and Q2 2008 reflect a restatement of those numbers.
